Man Running over Bar Chart

Are you happy with your conversion rates ?

I think there is only one right answer to this question – and the answer is No.
You should never be too happy with your conversion rates.

You should always strive for more.
This is the only thing that will force you to constantly improve your online business.

But what specific steps you can take to improve your website conversions ?

There are many things you can do. But some of them are more important than others.

Here is our top 8 list of things you should work on:

1. Create compelling content

Your content is your king …

Your content is one of the most valuable assets at your disposal.
Always write compelling content – and strive to update as often as you can.

Your potential and current clients will see that you are exceptional professional in your field.
And they will choose to work with you – not with your neighbor 🙂

2. Improve landing pages

Your design, layout, content and presentation can make or break the deal.
In a split second a user decides whether to stay on your website or move on.
Make sure you make this second count.

If you manage to grab their interest, you have already done 50% of your work.
If you manage to keep their interest, you have done another 25%.
And if they perform the specific action you want – congratulations, you have a working landing page !

3. Optimize your ads

You should constantly improve your ads.
This includes the ad copy of your textual ads, as well as the visuals in your graphical and animated ads.

One valuable advice:
Your ads and your website should match as much as possible. This way you will achieve the highest conversion rates.

And trust me, you don’t want to deceive people – you should always give them exactly what you told them in the ad copy.

4. Simplify your web forms

There are a few things you should keep in mind when implementing forms on your website:

Strive for less – less fields, less text, smaller forms, and a lot of white space
Reduce the steps – keep the steps to a minimum – but if you need a lot of info, make sure to split the form in 2 or 3 steps
Help – provide help and examples on every complex form field
Design and layout – keep a consistent look and feel; avoid fancy-pantsy forms on your business website 🙂
Add timer – for example: this form can be completed in 30 seconds; people are happy when they know they will not lose their time on your website

5. Add Call-to-Actions

Has this happened to you in the past:

You just arrived on a website and you don’t know what to do. You are not finding what you are looking for. And nothing is pointing you in the right direction.
Well, you are leaving already.

Believe me, you should avoid this scenario with your own website. Simply put the right call-to-actions at the right places.

A few examples: click here, do this, call us, read more, buy now, subscribe now – you get the picture.

A call-to-action can be as simple as two words (call us); as simple as a link (click here); or as simple as a button (buy now). But it should be right there for everyone to see.

6. Optimize checkout process

1. One page checkout – limit the number of steps in the checkout process, if possible to only one step
2. Allow guest checkout – this may have the biggest impact, as your customers will avoid a complex registration procedure
3. Show progress indicator – motivate your customers to start, by showing them how fast and easy the process is
4. Provide clear and simple Call-to-actions – the customer should know exactly where to click to finish the purchase.

7. Improve credibility

There are many things that will improve your company image.
But here are a few things you can do first:

– Make sure your website looks professional
– Add your contact details on every page
– Add case studies and customer testimonials
– Provide links to regularly updated – Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook profiles
– Provide proof that your organization is real

8. Be competitive

Research your competitors and provide unique competitive advantage.

Note: it’s not necessary to compete only by price.
You can provide better delivery times, additional value-added products and services, or additional promotions and discounts.

Some examples:
Free shipping for orders above X amount
Buy this ultra-expensive product and we will make a free presentation on how to use it
Buy this service, get the second service with 30% discount.

As you can see there are many things you can do to improve your conversions and raise your bottom line.
Note that this is an ongoing process and it may take some time until you get the results that you want.
